Please answer 1 question: What is the best experience you have ever had in live theater (as a spectator/audience member)?
Please then read the following extract from the prologue of Bluebeard’s Castle. We’d like to see you do this in the most natural way possible, so if you’d like to combine it with doing a casual task such as washing up, walking in the street, or reading a book, that would be preferable.
In vain I’ve dreamt too much of you,
Waited too long, staring into the distance.
In vain I lock you in my arms:
You come no closer,
Wild pain, wild and screaming pain.
Who was it hurt you?
Sometimes I see a stern face, by the wayside,
Or in the far corner of a crowded hall with chandeliers,
And I stare impatiently.
It seems to say: “There is someone out there!”
I would cry out: “There is someone out there!”
And I must go to them, reach out to them
With a hand’s gentle caress.
And ask them: “Did you cry last night? Did anybody kiss you?”
Ancient castle, ancient, too, the legend.
There is no way out of this magic circle.
Hide your desires, preserve your dreams.
And bloodily, like a lacerated flock of birds
Your torn sounds will scatter on the wind.
What do you sing?
