Edmonton Opera's Deanna Finnman receives Sterling Award
Edmonton Opera is thrilled to announce that Deanna Finnman, Head of Wardrobe won a Sterling Award for Outstanding Costume Design for The Mikado.
Deanna Finnman was delighted to receive this prestigious award and says that creation of The Mikado costumes was a great opportunity for Edmonton Opera to add a modern twist to this beloved Gilbert and Sullivan.
“Mikado was a true collaboration with our inspired director Rob Herriot, a dedicated and insanely talented team of wigmakers makers, makeup artists and wardrobe artisans, and our amazing singers who embraced our modern Mikado and gave it wings. Mikado was an experience I will not soon forget and will always be grateful for.” says Deanna Finnman.
Sandra Gajic, Edmonton Opera’s CEO, says that it wasn’t an easy decision to build new costumes, simply because of the high costs. “We are grateful to our Board of Directors for supporting our decision to build new costumes based on a very innovative concept designed by our own head of Wardrobe, Deanna Finnman”. Ms. Gajic says that Edmonton Opera hopes to have more new costume builds in the future.
Edmonton Opera would like to thank the jury of Elizabeth Sterling Haynes Awards and all nominees and winners. Sterling Awards is a truly exceptional celebration of the theatre community in Edmonton.
