Scandalous, seductive and shocking: a prophet’s head is served to a princess on a silver platter.
Undercurrents of dysfunction and danger boil to the surface as Salome’s interest in King Herod’s prisoner escalates from curiosity to obsession. The prophet Jokaanan mocks the biblical court from his subterranean cell, fuelling her interest. For distraction, Salome’s lecherous stepfather desires her attentions, promising anything she wishes if she performs the Dance of the Seven Veils. But what she wants is the prophet’s head on a silver platter. Scandalous, seductive and shocking, the Edmonton Opera opens its 50th anniversary season with Richard Strauss’ haunting opera.
Please note that as part of our 50th anniversary celebrations, Edmonton Opera will be providing complimentary parking to all of its patrons at the Jubilee parkade during all opera performances this season.
